Romford United is a grassroots youth football club in Romford, Essex. Boys and girls, junior age groups through to sixteens, coached properly every week and given a shirt they are proud to pull on.
Our story
Built on a Saturday morning, one team at a time.
Romford United started the way most grassroots clubs start: a handful of kids, a bag of cones and a parent who agreed to run a team. What kept it going was stubbornness — turning up in January drizzle, chasing pitch bookings, and refusing to tell a child there was no space for them.
Today the club runs squads across the junior and youth age groups, trains through the week and plays competitive fixtures at the weekend. The ambition has not really changed. We want a local club good enough that nobody in Romford needs to drive half an hour to find decent coaching for their child.
We are also a club that takes the boring parts seriously: registrations, subs, safeguarding, and telling parents what is happening before they have to ask. That is why everything — fixtures, payments, kit, your child’s development record — lives in one place in the Player / Parent / Guardian Portal.

What a week looks like
- Midweek training — one structured session per age group, working through that month’s syllabus block.
- Weekend fixture — league or cup football, with the squad and meet time posted in the portal.
- Optional 1-on-1s — individual sessions with a club coach for players who want extra work on one thing.

Every kid gets a game
We are not a talent-siphon. Children join at the level they are at and are coached forward from there. Nobody sits on the sideline for a whole season at this club — game time is part of development, not a reward for already being good.
Coaching with a plan
Sessions follow a season-long syllabus rather than whatever the coach fancied on the drive over. Each age group works through technique, decision-making and physical literacy in blocks, so a player can tell you what they are working on this month and why.
Honest about the scoreboard
We play competitive league and cup football and we want to win — but the post-match conversation is about the performance, not the result. Effort, bravery on the ball and how you treat the opposition are what get talked about on the way home.
Parents are part of the squad
Families run the touchline, the kit bags and the raffle. Half the reason the club works is a WhatsApp group of parents who move a fixture at 8pm on a Friday. If you want to be involved, there is a job with your name on it.
Our teams
11 squads, one badge.
Age groups run in school-year bands. If your child sits between two, we will place them where they will get the most football — not just where the birthday falls.
